Lifespan

Repairing breaks in genes—which lead to things like cancer and heart disease, systemic disregulation, inflammatory factors etc: ageing, essentially—can be done by three day fasts. Our amazing bodies are equipped to do this already (it’s just not understood by the medical establishment fully yet).

Specifically, on the third day of the fast, SIRT1, SIRT6, and SIRT7 are activated. They literally travel down the DNA strand in each and every cell and repair DNA breaks, then return to the end. The third day also induces autophagy, where the body rids itself of senescent cells—those suckers that are causing inflammation and mucking things up for the rest of the healthy cells.

Fats (in the diet) do not cause inflammation. Simple carbohydrates do (sugar, bread, pasta etc). Anyhow, the day before fasting, if you switch to mostly fats—e.g. olive oil, avocado, and full fat yogurt—as your main energy source, your amazing body will switch to ketosis, the liver producing glucose from the fats. Therefore when you begin to fast your metabolism switches seamlessly to using stored body fat to produce glucose, so insulin is largely offline (the pancreas now using glucagon for energy regulation instead) and therefore there’s no hunger because there are no dips and rises in blood sugar. Essentially our bodies return to the state they were designed for by billions of years of evolution.

SIRT1, SIRT6, and SIRT7—found in the nucleus—collaborate with epigenetic regulation of every cell.

All this and much more information on what we can all be doing 𝒏𝒐𝒘 to lengthen our health and lifespans is in Sinclair’s book 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘯. I can pm anyone the link to him reading the audio book if wished (it’s free, as it should be). I’m listening to it a third time currently. It’s given me many subjects to research further.
